Making a nativity (Nacimiento, Noël)

For me my favorite season is Christmas, the born of Love, Jesus. So since I've married I create my own nativity, in a salt dough. Later about 17 years ago,I've created one in paste, and sold them to Sanborns, a big store in Mexico City, and sold there for about 3 years. After that arrive my son, and for him I've made a big one, in paper. Now I'm making a new one for a customer and friend. Hope you like de the development of it!

Another machine challenge !!

As Posted before, every new order, is a new challenge for me...I'm working again, in one big challenge.. a Yamaha motorcycle! a customized order. For me is very difficult to realize non organical figures. But as I've made in my course for children, one of my little students ask me for a motorcycle, I've certain idea of where to begin. That make the work more "easy". I started with the sketch of the machine, to dimension in my head, the main figure, and how would I develop it in a sculpture, that would not weight too much. The easiest would be to make a plasticine sculpture, but the weight would be too much, and in the other hand the durability of the piece, both were problems, then have to be resolve them, by making a sculpture with paper and cardboard. I'm still developing the volume.. so I can't sing Victory yet... I have to cut and paste, so many times now.. but I think I'm resolving it. So far, so good, let's see what happens :)

Each project a challenge by Original Verónica Pérez

As a freelancer and owner of my own brand, (I'm my own company, design, creates, sells, collect, administrates, etc.) I've the freedom of create my own subjects. Most of them inspired Mexican Culture, but also in culture in general, history, arts, movies, music, fashion..among many themes I can develop, and I love, and also that I'm always studying, learning and getting inspired of. But some time I've also request pieces from some of my clients, for doing some customized projects. I've to confess, at first it's a little hard,to quit some of the many ideas I want to develop, have to wait... but then, I'm encourage by the exciment of a challenge! The first challenge, to "catch the idea". It's indispensable to write, and some times to draw the skecth of the idea, to see, if it's what your customer wants. It happens to me, that I've the wrong idea of the fish, who was the pet of my cousin, she wants a certain type of fish, and even though I've checked some images in the web, her fish has more larger flippers! I have almost finished the piece, and have to correct the piece, it was difficult, but finally she was happy with the result. It finally was here pet! Second challenge. Have the enough information, photographs, sizes, color. Other request, was Motorcycle chess board. I've never in my life, haver ever made any kind of machines, the challenge of doing a Dukati and a BMW.. in 3cms size was... one of the most difficult things I've ever done. For me developing organic themes, is easier than making machines... but I've to prove myself that I can do it. It was by seeing the similarity with the animals with the design of the motorcycles, that I did it, and having a lot of photos make me the work easier. Thank God, for the internet... now we can have a lot of good images. Third challenge. With communication with your client. To avoid what happened with the fish. I tried to have feed back of my client, and also like to take photos of the developing process, so if you have to modify something, doing it in the first steps of the process.. not at the end. The reward.. the most challenge moment is the meeting with your customer, to see if your work fit their expectation. That moment, when you just hold your breath... take out the piece, and look into their face... waiting for a gesture... then, She or he, make a smile :) you're mission is acomplish, you can breath again!!

"Catrina" by Orinal Veronica Perez

This is my version of the "Catrina". The first to create this image were Mr. Guadalupe Posadas, from the state of Aguascalientes, México, during the period of the Mexican Revolution. It's been said, he created this image to make fun of "Catrines" the rich people of the time of President Porfirio Diaz, they pretend to be "European". After a time the famous muralist Diego Rivera, make his version in a picture called "Sueño de una tarde dominical en Alameda Central". Inspired most in Diego Rivera's Catrina, here is my version. Hope you like it! You may find my Catrina, at Frida Kahlo Museum's store and Dolores Olmedo Museum's store!

"Each creation a Story..."

Each creation a story... by Original Verónica Pérez
If you ask any artist of creator, of whatever art is.. music, painting, jewelry, designers.. you may find, that each creation, for the artist is a different story. For me, each piece is that, a story. For me each color, texture, size, deepth, mark, tells you something. In my case I love to work with music, and depending the work I'm realizing is the music I choose for developing first the idea, then the sketching, and finally the piece. The gift is when you see the face of the people that look at your work, then you know if they in some way understand your story, that you think it was only yours, and now you're sharing it with them :)

Inspired by Ballet and ballerinas...

Latelly I've been inpsired by "ballet" my sister is guilty for that, since children she always love it, and for that reason, we took some "ballet" classes, soon I discovered that as a "ballet dancer", I'm a very good painter ;) I've also have the opportunity to assist to some great ballet performances, like the "Swank lake ballet" at the Isle of Chapultepec, in Mexico City. A beautifull performance, because the place.. is a natural, open place, when you have a natural stage, the great costumes, the light, but most of all the music, and the dancers, almost magical!! Another great performance, is held at "El Auditorio Nacional "The nutcracker ballet", was just awesome. Definitely love the costumes! It also inspired me, the see my beautifull two little nieces on stage, dancing ballet, they were so cute!! love you my little ones! That and my recently love for the impressionist, and specially for Edgar Degas "ballerinas"... inspired me to create my own versions of my "Ballerinas series", inspired in this magical world of ballet. I'm glad to share with you some of my ballerinas. Hope you like it!
